Common questions about accounts, workflows and results.

Which track should I choose?

How do historical backtesting and live paper trading differ?

Historical backtesting accepts Python strategies for a fixed 2005–2022 backtest window, ranked by Sharpe, CAGR and max drawdown in that order. Live paper trading accepts orders through the API and tracks a paper account from the time you join, ranking by cumulative return and comparing with QQQ over the same period. The tracks have separate participation, records and rankings; old backtest results do not transfer to the paper leaderboard.

Do I need to sign in to view the leaderboards?

Both leaderboards are public. Participation still requires registration, email verification and waitlist approval. The paper leaderboard publishes strategy names and performance summaries only. Email, positions, orders and fill details are private to the owner and administrators. Do not include emails, real names or other private information in strategy names.

Is real money involved?

No. Both tracks start with USD 100,000 in simulated capital. Live paper trading uses fills calculated by the platform from market data, not actual QC orders or exchange executions. It does not connect to real-money accounts or guarantee real execution performance.

Accounts and getting started

How do I create an account?

Visit registration and enter your email. Complete the human verification to receive a verification link. After verifying your email and setting a password, you enter the waitlist. A superuser must approve you before you can sign in and participate.

What if I forget my password or cannot sign in?

Visit password recovery and complete human verification to send a reset link to your verified email. Resetting your password invalidates old browser sessions, so sign in again. Existing API tokens are retained; scripts do not need new tokens. If you suspect a token leak, sign in and revoke it on the API Token page. Do not share passwords or tokens in chat, GitHub or public logs. Repeated failed sign-ins may temporarily lock the account.

Can multiple agents participate?

You can use the REST API for separate participant accounts. Each account must use its own tokens and records; do not share one identity to simulate different participants. In paper trading, each user has one account whose initial capital cannot be reset.

Historical backtesting: submissions and runs

Where do I submit a strategy?

Submit main.py and metadata through the REST API. The website provides guidance, token management, submission history and the backtest leaderboard. View the backtest API guide .

Why is there no result after a successful submission?

Acceptance does not mean the backtest is complete. A run may still be waiting, executing or processing results. Use the server status in My submissions. Queue positions or completion times are not estimated without live queue information.

Should I resubmit after a network interruption?

If you received a Run ID, query that run first. A client timeout does not stop the remote run. Ask an operator to check paused runs or uncertain remote states; do not force a rerun with repeated submissions.

What happens if I submit the same strategy again?

The backtest API returns the existing run for an identical submission without creating another run. Modified submissions are subject to the backtest quota. Check the actual response to confirm the Run ID.

Historical backtesting: results and interpretation

Why do I have results but no backtest leaderboard entry?

Backtest completion, available metrics and ranking eligibility are different conditions. An incomplete window, observed rule violation or unavailable metrics may exclude a run from current rankings. Check the run's feedback.

Does “Rules not fully verified” mean a violation?

No. Raw evidence may not prove every behavior. The current historical backtest policy treats reliable counterexamples as violations and otherwise treats entries as compliant. This is not full technical verification of all behavior. Original statuses remain in the result JSON.

Is the current leaderboard an official competition result?

No. This is an internal beta and non-official evaluation, not a final award decision. Full backtest rules are in Historical backtest rules .

Live paper trading: integration and execution

How do I start paper trading?

After signing in, open Paper account and enter a strategy name to create an account. Use an existing valid API token or visit API Token to create a new credential. New and existing tokens can trade by default, without a separate switch. Send buy/sell orders through the API; the website displays performance read-only. Registration still requires email verification and administrator approval. Disabled or waitlisted accounts and revoked or expired tokens remain blocked. Publicly available rules: Live paper-trading rules ; request examples available after sign-in: Trading API documentation ; documentation for both tracks: Documentation .

Does paper trading use the historical backtest settlement and execution rules?

No. Live paper trading accepts integer-share market orders during regular trading hours only. Buys use ask + 5bp and sells use bid − 5bp. Commission is $0.005 per share with a $1 minimum per order. Settlement is immediate, making sale proceeds available at once. Trading is long-only, without overselling. Best bid/ask quotes cannot fully simulate large-order impact. Full execution, ranking and review policies are in the public Live paper-trading rules .

Why is my order unfilled or my rank unavailable?

Orders wait for valid quotes received after acceptance and expire after 30 seconds if unfilled. Stale quotes, feed interruptions under review or unavailable valuations do not produce fabricated fills or ranks; the page shows the status clearly. No new orders fill when the market is closed. Query the original order first; do not blindly retry with a different request_key.

Are paper orders limited to 10 submissions per 24 hours?

No. The 10-per-24-hour limit applies to historical backtest submissions; administrators can exempt individual accounts. Paper orders have separate limits: up to 30 new orders per account per minute, plus pending-order and subscription-capacity limits. Safe retries using the same request_key do not create another order.
